I Saw The Light is The Blue Dolphins rendition to Todd Rundgren's original 1972 hit. Their special tribute to the genius on the 50th anniversary of his famous album. The track is as close as the original as possible but with the typical Dolphin’s wall of sound signature. It’s energy is as fresh, exhilarating and carelessly happy as the original and sung as a duet from top to bottom with lush backing vocals and instrumentation.

about
“I first discovered Todd Rundgren in my early teenage hood. We never stop playing it, especially when there were girls around. Something/Anything’s luminous and colorful energy always fascinated me. I couldn’t believe that amazing album had been done just by one person in around three weeks of obsessive-compulsive work. He always epitomized to me the word genius and I think Todd Rundgren is one of the most talented, though horribly under rated, music creators in American pop culture. Always innovating, always looking ahead, always breaking with the past and moving forward.
Todd was and is one of my most cherished, personal heroes. That inner cover picture of Something/Anything? and it's music inspired me to be who I am as a musician, songwriter and producer. I always loved the energy of I Saw The Light and I always wanted to produce a cover of it for The Blue Dolphins because it is such a beautiful song to be sung as a duet and because Todd is all about love, like us.
We never thought that we were going to release this single now in February, and we never had in mind the fact that it is now, in February, when the record was originally released 50 years ago. So, the whole event has come out as an especially beautiful strike of synchronicity. I would like to think that he would love our rendition of his song. We did our best Todd, that is for sure!”
lyrics
"I Saw The Light"
It was late last night
I was feeling something wasn't right
There was not another soul in sight
Only you, only you
So we walked along
Though I knew that there was something wrong
And a feeling hit me, oh so strong
About you
Then you gazed up at me
And the answer was plain to see
'Cause I saw the light
In your eyes, in your eyes
Though we had our fling
I just never would suspect a thing
Till that little bell began to ring
In my head, in my head
But I tried to run
Though I knew it wouldn't help me none
'Cause I couldn't ever love no one
Or so I said
'Cause my feelings for you
Were just something I never knew
Till I saw the light
In your eyes, in your eyes
But I love you best
It's not something that I say in jest
'Cause you're different, girl, from all the rest
In my eyes
And I ran out before
But I won't do it anymore
Can't you see the light in my eyes
In my eyes
In my eyes
In my eyes
